Sexual and reproductive health competencies for nurses
Leading the way for delivery of competent sexual and reproductive health (SRH) care around the world
In 2011, the World Health Organization (WHO) published this set of core sexual and reproductive health (SRH) competencies for interprofessional primary health care (PHC) providers, including nurses. The competencies “reflect the attitudes, tasks, knowledge and skills that health personnel in PHC may need to protect, promote and provide SRH in the community,” and are intended to be adapted by individual countries to fit their unique population needs and health care delivery systems.
Nurse educators may find these competencies useful for developing curricula and evaluating student progress in acquiring knowledge, skills and attitudes that are necessary for providing sound SRH care.
